5 Years Since 9/11
Where were you when the planes hit the towers? I was in a Tokyo hotel, having missed my connection to Singapore. I was in transit to Thailand to do a system deployment project. I watched the attacks happen live on CNN International. After the second plane hit, I called home. Mrs. Iron Works spent the next few hours crying into the phone from 6000 miles away.
The next day, I took the bus from the hotel back to the airport...sitting next to a man whose office was (used to be) in WTC2. He was in shock, and had not been able to contact anyone from his office. I let him use my cell phone, and he did get through to one person. I was also shocked at the sympathy of my Japanese friends and colleagues. When I finally got to the Tokyo office on September 12, many people were visibly shaken, and truly apologetic for what had happened in the US.
As it was for me, it will probably be the defining cultural moment of our lives, at least until the terrorists nuke something. We should not forget who did this, and keep working to destroy the Islamo-Fascist terrorists before they hit us again.
Remember this when you go to vote in November: While they have their shortcomings, only the Republicans have the will to take on terrorism.
There's a zillion posts on 9-11, but this one sums things up pretty well: Hot Air: Five Years On
